Tweedy Mile Association celebrated its 5th Annual Art & Family Night on Tuesday, March 16th at the South Gate Park Auditorium. After judging the overwhelming amount of contest entries, on May 14, 2011 the organization awarded 16 winners.
City of South Gate Mayor Maria Davila, Art Night Chair Rene Ornelas, and Program Director Sharon King with the South Gate Arts Association, handed award checks and recognitions from U.S. Congresswoman Linda Sanchez. The event’s judges divided the awards in two main categories: Day of the Event entries, and Take Home entries.

About Art Night:
Tweedy Mile Your Community is promoted through all South Gate schools and provides cash prizes to winners in different media, and age categories. Audience wise, Art Night proved to be even more successful in 2009 compared to 2008. There were 337 participants about 100 over than last year’s. These participants came from 18 local schools including South Gate Middle School, Southeast Middle School, South Gate High School, and South East High School and 22 surrounding schools were also present.
TMA attributes Art Night success to the talent and commitment to South Gate’s creative youth of its instructors and volunteers. TMA will like to acknowledge the following instructors in different art media.
